Scott Mescudi has always worn his heart on his sleeve. That claim has never been more apparent than on his 2015 Grunge-driven release Speeding’ Bullet 2 Heaven, which, although was met with a negative reception from critics and some fans, still stood as a testament to the raw honesty Cudi brings to everything he does. Sadly, Cudi released an open letter detailing his battles with depression and admitted to having suicidal thoughts. Being brave enough to reveal his darkest demons both publicly and through his music is one of the biggest reasons Cudi’s fanbase is so diverse, so loving, and above everything else, so connected to him.

On Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’, Cudi is back to his Man On the Moon ways adding his signature style and distinctive voice over a rollercoaster soundtrack spanning 19 songs split into specific Acts, in classic Cudi fashion. High energy, upbeat bangers such as “By Design”, “Surfin‘”, and “Flight At First Sight / Advanced”, are combined with introspective, brooding jams like “Baptized in Fire”, “Frequency”, and “All In”, which all get mixed in with heartfelt, haunting songs like “Releaser”, “Wounds” and “Swim In the Light”. Most notably, the throwback, classic Cudi feel is most present on tracks like “ILLusions”, “Mature Nature”, “Does It”, and “Distant Fantasies”. With this release, more than ever before, not only does Cudi leaves fans satisfied, but he also leaves them with the feeling that everything is going to be okay. The inspiring, triumphant vibe of songs like “Kitchen” and “Rose Gold”, you can almost feel Cudi successfully battling the demons that plague him. Though the agonizing wait for the unconfirmed Man On the Moon 3 hasn’t diminished, Passion, Pain & Demon Slayin’ is sure to be a Cudi album that will be celebrated by everyone.
