Meek Mill went through, quite possibly, the biggest wave of turmoil in the lead up to his fourth studio album. Fighting the justice system day in and day out after being served with a two to four year sentence for violating his probation. The circumstances of the violation and sentencing were the source of controversy for months on end. Corrupt judges and mishandling of the situation also came into discussion, ultimately leading to Meek winning his freedom and furthermore being involved with his community to educate the youth about hardships they may face being black in America. Along with beating the system, Meek also resolved previous feuds with high profile artists. Everyone remembers the Drake & Meek Mill situation back in 2015, and his back and forth event with The Game was also highly publicized, but all is in the past and everybody is all on the same page again, showing love and support. Drake even appears on one of the best records on the album, “Going Bad”. Championships showcases Meek in a manner we’ve never seen before and it’s brilliant. Hard-hitting lyricism, conscious thoughts, and pure honesty from start to finish. Features from JAY-Z, Rick Ross, Cardi B, and more also add to the enjoyment of the album, but simply put, the album is levels above the competition. Meek Mill has always been known to deliver when it comes to putting out projects, and Championships is excellent proof of that.
